Inside the ophthalmology EPR

Everything an eye service runs on, from the first referral to the outcome audit. Each module can be switched on for your service as you need it.

The eye record

  • Right and left eye always shown the same way round, with every value labelled R or L.
  • Eye banner with allergies, pathways, problems per eye, drops and diabetic status.
  • 13 care pathways ready to use, plus drops favourites and order sets per eye.

Consultations

  • VA entered as Snellen (6/ or 20/), decimal, logMAR, CF, HM, PL or NPL, and stored as logMAR for trends.
  • Last visit’s values shown beside each field, with a one-click “Normal” for each structure.
  • Autosaves as you go. Signing locks the record and later changes become addenda.

Waiting lists

  • Listed procedures, planned visits and investigations in one place.
  • Sorted by clinical risk, with urgency and target weeks.
  • Book in one click, offer earlier slots and export to CSV.

Trends and visual fields

  • VA, IOP against target, CCT, cup-to-disc ratio, macular thickness and HbA1c.
  • A drops timeline so you can see what changed and when.
  • Visual field reliability checks and progression rate in dB per year.

Injection clinic

  • Loading, fixed, PRN and treat-and-extend plans per eye.
  • Blocks a record against the wrong eye. Batch and expiry are required every time.
  • One search finds every patient given a batch if there’s a drug recall.

Cataract surgery

  • Biometry per eye, read from the printout by AI and confirmed by the clinician.
  • IOL library, and a Sign-In, Time-Out and Sign-Out checklist that must be completed.
  • Outcomes with prediction error and complications recorded.

Letters

  • GP and patient letters drafted automatically when the consultation is signed.
  • Approval queue, bulk print to a single PDF and a 48-hour overdue alert.
  • Emailed from the clinician’s own mailbox and logged on the record.

Clinic flow

  • Check-in from the calendar loads each patient’s steps from their pathway.
  • Wait timers turn amber then red, with a countdown for dilation.
  • Wall-screen mode shows initials only, plus a daily clinic report.

Audit and safety

  • Cataract audit: capsule rupture rate, refractive accuracy and VA 6/12 or better.
  • Glaucoma, medical retina, operations and data quality reports.
  • Clinical safety hazards logged for every feature, ready for your safety officer.

Measures we’ve taken

  • Semantic, structured HTML for screen readers and other assistive technology
  • Keyboard-navigable menus, buttons, and interactive controls, including this dialog
  • Colour combinations checked for adequate contrast
  • Descriptive link text and alternative text for meaningful images
  • A responsive layout that adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels

Known limitations

Some embedded third-party content, such as the interactive product preview, may not yet be fully optimised for assistive technology. We are working to improve this over time.
